New York Fashion Week SS14

In the fashion world, the month of September signifies the fashion month as most fashion designers show us what to expect to wear in the following year’s spring and summer through their collections. Kicking off with NYFW, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week started last Thursday in New York with SS14 collections from famous designers like Desigual, BCBG; and it is expected to last untill next week.

What Are The Expectations From NYFW SS14?

The obvious expectation will be Trend forecasters predicting what the trend will be in spring/summer 2014. Fashion often repeats itself or at least improves from the previous fashion era.

Spring 2014 will see more of floral, prints, pastel combinations, patterns and a lot of mismatched colours and colour blocking. It is not surprising that this trend is a reflection of the spring season with the emerging of flowers and various outdoor activities.

I suspect we will see a continuation of resort (wear) — big florals, art-inspired prints, offbeat pastel combinations and architecturally minded separates and sportswear-inspired ideas,” predicts Anne Slowey, fashion news editor of Elle Magazine.

Flora and fauna will be flourishing, even in mismatched patterns on top and bottoms.

Expect to see fresh colours, more of baggy, breezy and loose trousers.

The Fashion Week will be about Fashion gossips, Street Styles, anniversaries, and fashionistas. People will be tweeting and instagramming what they have seen at the event, thanks to the technology, which has made this possible.

The crowds gathering outside every show venue hoping for Scott ‘The Sartorialist’ Shuman to march them off to a quiet well-lit corner to be snapped, are a can’t-look-away vision of chic, perfectly put-together outfits mashed up with looks…

This year’s event will be a milestone for some of the famous fashion designers.

In New York, DKNY will celebrate a whopping 25 years while over at Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa has racked up ten years overseeing the super brand.

BCBG spring/summer 2014 collections showcased borrowed designs from men’s shirts according to Mail Online

It was a perfect melodic backdrop to collection inspired by men’s tailored shirts that spoke of a softer version of summer – with light fabrics like cotton, linen, poplin and chiffon shown in crisp whites, french blues and delicate floral prints.

High-waisted wide-leg white pants, paired with a cropped tuxedo-style cotton twill shirt; andan asymmetrical, crisp white snake-embossed skirt worn with a boxy, soft linen jacket, injected atough whimsicality to the range.
